During the Holocaust, Johanna and Cornelia (Nelly) Weiss sent packages to prisoners at Theresienstadt. Receipients of these packages were required to send back a notice that they had received what was sent. The Weiss family sent packages to David and Hendla Elter (nee Ulreich) who were living in Wien, Austria when the Holocaust began. They were deported to Theresienstadt and then Auschwitz where they perished. They also sent packages to Dr. Jakob Roll who was born in Berchomet, Romania in 1888. He was also living in Wien and was deported to Theresienstadt in 1942. He was later sent to Auschwitz in 1944 and on to Dachau in 1945 where he perished. Packages also went to Kamilla Halzer, Adolf Meier, and Fritzi Mayer who were also deported from Wien, Austria. There is one recipient's name that is illegible. Sara and Rosia Dormind also seem to send packages. |
