Henry Abraham was born in Offenbach am Main, Germany on August 25, 1921. In 1937, fearing the rise of the Nazi Party, his parents sent him to live with relatives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Henry's father, Frederick Abraham, was arrested on Kristallnacht, and spent almost two months in Dachau Concentration Camp before being released. Frederick, Liesel, and Otto Abraham followed Henry to the United States, arriving in early 1939. In 1942, Henry was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Army Intelligence in the European Theater. At the war's end, he served in a military unit helping to review German documents used in the Nuremberg Trials. In 1972, Henry began teaching political science at the University of Virginia. |
