Admin/Biographical History |
Hannah Shulman (nee Koblentz) was born in Albany, New York on September 16, 1912. When the United States entered the war in 1941, Hannah's boyfriend was immediately drafted, and she decided to do anything she could to help the war effort. In 1942, she enlisted in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC). Hannah's first assignment was at the Military District of Washington filing secret documents. In May 1945, she was transferred to the European Theater. She was eventually assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces (SHAEF). After having seen survivors of concentration camps, Hannah decided she needed to see them herself. She toured three of the camps while on leave, including Buchenwald and also witnessed some of the War Crimes trials. |
