Dr. Charles Baird took control of the 5th Evacuation Hospital at Camp Blanding, Florida in November of 1942. The unit arrived in England in December 1943. Charles remained commanding officer of the unit until his injury in Eupen, Belgium in February of 1945. He returned to the United States in April of 1945. Charles was awarded the Legion of Merit for his assignment as commanding officer. |

The Charles Baird Papers focus primarily on Charles' assignment as commanding officer of the 5th Evacuation Hospital. These papers include photos and a unit history. Folder 1 contains donation information. Folder 2 has a complete unit history of the 5th Evacuation Hospital in WWII. Folder 3 holds several copies of photographs of Colonel Baird.
