Lorenza Hammack Jr., known as Jack, was born on October 3, 1922 in Lawrenceville, Virginia. He joined the U.S. Army in early 1943 and was eventually assigned to the 45th Infantry Division, one of the liberating units of Dachau Concentration Camp. He separated from the Army after the war, graduating from law school in 1948. |

The Jack Hammack Papers focus primarily on Jack's service during World War II and the 45th ID as a liberating unit. These papers include personal reminiscences. Folder 1 contains notes and correspondence relating to an interview conducted with Jack in 2003.
