Propaganda poster vertically printed on tan paper. Poster is printed in red and black ink in a Gothic font. The first two words of the quote 'Der Friede,' the speaker of the quotation, Gauleiter Burckel, and the appropriate days to view the poster, are printed in red ink. The remainder of the text as well as a printed portrait in the top center of the page (3.5 in by 5 in) of Josef Burckel, the Gauliter of the NSDAP party from 1933-1944, are printed in black ink. Poster is a quotation Josef Burckel and was set to be distributed by the Gau-propaganda by Gau Saarpfalz from January 2-8, 1939. It reads in German: "Der friede ist das Ergebnis gegenseitigen Respektes. Dieser respect ist nunmehr an der brenze zwischen Deutschland und frankreich eingebaut. Der beste Grenzschutz aber ist neben einer starken mehrmacht eine zufriedene Arbeiterschaft, die un Geiste sozialer Gerechtigkeit gefuhrt wird." In English this translates to: "Peace is the result of mutual respect. This respect is now built at the border between Germany and France. But the best border protection besides a strong Wehrmacht is a happy workforce, guided in the spirit of social justice." |
