Description |
Propaganda poster printed vertically on tan paper in a Gothic font and in gold, black, and red ink. Poster was created and distributed by the Central press of the NSDAP and depicts a quotation by Theodore Fontane. The top half of the poster is the drawing of four flags that include the swastika in the middle and the iron cross in the upper left corner, as well as a cross extending the flag, and hidden behind the swastika. Below this is a laurel wreath including leaves and two berries. Printed on top of these images is a red shield shape; within the shield is a upside down lantern. The handle of the lantern has golden accents, but is mostly the color of the page it is printed on. The flame rises to the right and has red accents, but is mostly the color of the page. Below the drawings is the quotation, the first three lines, the last word, the name of the speaker in a banner below the quotation, the word 'knabe' below the speaker and the appropriate dates of poster viewing are in gold ink. The only other red ink is the fourth and fifth lines of the quotation. The quote reads, "Mit halbeheiten wird nichts ganzes gewonnen. Der hochste preis darf den hochstem einsatz fordern." Or, "You don't win something whole with half measures. The biggest award may demand the highest command." |
