VE Day issue of the Stars and Stripes in a black frame. The headline reads: ETO War Ends. George Rodericks wrote his thoughts about the end of the war down on the issue. They read as follows: Shorty this is it!! After two years of this I can't believe it! / Thank God I have made it this far! / God bless the boys who never lived to see this day. / I am registering my thoughts on this paper today because I want always to remember / them. Today here in Germany seems like just another day. / I can't find a reason to have a big time - I'm just thinking it all over. / No celebration, no cheers, only sober thoughts! |
